Ingredients
- 1 pound of ground beef
- 1 medium green pepper, chopped
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (10-ounce) can of diced tomatoes and green chiles
- 1 (8-ounce) can of tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup long-grain rice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper, plus more to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, plus more to taste
- hot pepper sauce, to taste
- 1 small head cabbage, chopped
- 1 cup Colby cheese, shredded
- fresh basil, optional, for garnish
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- In a skillet, cook the beef, green pepper, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.
- Drain the fat from the skillet.
- Stir in the tomatoes, tomato sauce, rice, salt, basil, oregano, white pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and hot sauce.
- Spread the mixture into an ungreased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Top the beef mixture with the cabbage and the Colby cheese.
- Cover and bake until the rice is tender, about 65-75 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh basil and serve.
