Cajun Fried Cabbage


  • 2 tablespoons grapeseed oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning, or to taste, divided
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/2 medium green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 medium head cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter, optional, plus more to taste
  • salt, to taste
  • ground black pepper, to taste


  1. Heat the grapeseed oil in a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat.

  2. Add the onions and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.

  3. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.

  4. Season the onions and garlic with 1 teaspoon of the Cajun seasoning, stirring to combine.

  5. Mix in the red peppers and green peppers, cooking until slightly softened, about 1-2 minutes.

  6. Add the cabbage and remaining Cajun seasoning, stirring to combine.

  7. Add the butter and stir until melted.

  8. Simmer the cabbage until it reaches the desired softness, about 15 minutes.

  9. Season the cabbage with salt and pepper. Serve.
